A guided ‘Artist in Residence’ program for creative exploration & self discovery
A ‘Creator in Residence’ is someone who is exploring their own creative unfoldment, no talent or experience is required. We offer a nurturing space with loving support so you can take the time to delve into your inner world and bring forth your own unique creative expression. Whether you are an emerging artist or an adventurous spirit, this is a wonderful opportunity to spread your wings and fly!

In 2018 the CIR program is offered at Awakening Arts Academy near Portland, Oregon from February- April 2018*
Our CREATOR in RESIDENCE program offers a unique opportunity for self exploration, creative unfoldment and soul replenishment. No talent or experience is necessary. Our unique ‘soul centered’ approach focuses on the transformative process of creativity. We believe every human being is an artist, and that engaging the creative process awakens our joy, vitality and creative genius.
Enjoy the pastoral beauty of the Oregon countryside with easy access to one of America’s most culturally alive cities. Its official city motto, “Keep Portland Weird”, ensures you can experience the gamut. Try some Kombucha on tap with a shot of fresh turmeric juice!
Our beautiful light filled studio is located on a campus dedicated to ‘Education for Higher Consciousness’. In addition to the space equipped for visual arts, there are also adjoining spaces for movement, music and theater- including a performance auditorium.
This program is gently guided by faculty from the Academy. Each Creator in Residence Program is a unique flow co-created by the participants. The flow will include morning circles for inspiration and guidance, studio time (often silent, sometimes with music) and occasional excursions to the natural, cultural and artistic treasures of the Portland area. Meals together are spiced with lively conversations; and there is also ample time for replenishing alone time- walks in nature, early morning meditations, etc. Precious time dedicated to delving deeply into our own inner process balances with sharing, laughter and fun.
Room and board are included in the program fee. The Academy is on the campus of the Ananda Center at Laurelwood retreat center and community. The campus includes beautiful views of rolling hills, nature trails, gardens and orchards, chickens and llamas- life in the country!
* One month residencies; the program is of 30 days duration and can start on any day between February 1 and April 12, 2018
Costs
- $1,800.00 – Program Price
The program price includes $700 monthly tuition and $1,100 room and board. All meals, complementary yoga classes and group meditations are also included. Tuition covers your use of the studio and basic materials, guided catalyzing processes and a light structure that affords loving support of your process.

We also offer an Artist in Residence Program
An ‘Artist in Residence’ is a practicing artist (or writer, playwright, filmmaker, etc.) who seeks the time, space and inspiration that nourishes an emerging body of work. As an AIR you can set your own schedule, taking advantage of the rich resources that surround the Academy- the beautiful and peaceful natural environment, the yoga and meditation at Ananda, the culturally vibrant towns and cities nearby.
In 2018 the AIR program at Laurelwood near Portland, Oregon is available February-April.
Depending on the time of your stay you may be the only artist present in the space, or you may be sharing the space with others. There is plenty of room for each to have their own table & work area in the painting studio as well as access to the larger movement and music spaces nearby.
We connect in a spirit of community and enjoy the contagious buzz of creativity flowing in the midst. However, we often work in silence and hold strongly to the principle that each creator has their own ‘corner of the universe’ that is free from observation or intrusion. Our unique mission as a center for spiritual art means that we value silence, seclusion and the opportunity to delve deep within your own soul.
The Artist in Residence program cost is $1,450.00 Price includes a $350 monthly studio fee and $1,100 room and board. All meals, complementary yoga classes and group meditations are included

* Awakening Arts Academy is open to all paths and honors all spiritual traditions. We are on the campus of the Ananda Center at Laurelwood which offers daily and meditation in the Raja Yoga tradition. Ananda is based on the universal teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda. Participants may choose their level of involvement with the Ananda community.
